TESTIMONIALS

I would like to thank you for the excellent and enjoyable courses that I have attended over the years. Thank you for introducing me to such an enjoyable and worthwhile therapy!

Rob Adams, Chester

"Hi! I just want to send you a quick e-mail to say thanks to Chris, Shaun and all at the Northern Institute. I was really pleased with the course and felt the staff did everything possible to enable me to finish the exams, though heavily pregnant at the time, so thank you!"

Remedial Massage is the core or foundation course of the Northern Institute, a platform upon which students may start their careers in the massage profession. Remedial Massage is a system of examination and treatment of musculo-skeletal injuries and conditions, for example, low back pain.

Applicants for the course should normally be aged eighteen or over but no previous experience or qualifications are required. Many of our students are people who are seeking a change of direction and career, due to early retirement, redundancy or simply a new challenge.

THE COURSE COMPONENTS

The Remedial Massage course comprises two components both of which have to be successfully completed for the award of the Institute‘s Diploma in Remedial Massage:

THE THEORETICAL COURSEWORK

This comprises the best anatomy, physiology & pathology text book currently available and Lessons 1 - 13 which the student studies at home. At the end of each lesson there are questions to which the student writes answers and then send them back to the Institute for marking and assessment by your tutors. The marked lessons will be sent back to you with constructive comments (where appropriate) along with the next set of lesson materials. Students always have access to a tutor to help with the coursework either by telephone or e-mail and, of course, when you attend for practical instruction at Bury or at one of the other approved tuition centres.

THE PRACTICAL CLASSES

The second component of the course is the practical instruction which takes place at the Northern Institute or at one of the approved tuition centres. All the tutors are working, professional therapists with successful practices of their own. Northern Institute tutors are chosen by the Principal because they are successful in their practices and because they are people of the highest possible calibre and integrity. The tutors are, thus, able to teach and advise you on the strength of their clinical and business experience. Upon enrolment you will receive a timetable of classes to enable you to arrange to attend for your practical instruction. You will find that the timetable is quite flexible and you will be able to structure your attendances to suit your own particular needs and circumstances. Members of the Institute's staff will be available and willing to help you plan your course if you require their assistance.

COURSE LENGTH

The Remedial Massage course has been designed with a good degree of flexibility to allow students to progress at their own individual rate and to complete the theoretical home study course and the required attendances for practical instruction without undue stress and pressure.

Many students complete all the course components within twelve months, are then awarded their diploma and qualify as Remedial Massage Therapists. Other students take longer depending upon their individual circumstances, work commitments and even temporary absence due to illness.

However long or short the duration of your course, you will, on successful completion be eligible for membership of a professional association, for example, The National Association of Massage and Manipulative Therapists.
